A Bossy Business Scam | FTC Consumer Information
Scammers like to mix it up. They may pose as vendors who have existing relationships with the company and send e-mails to “update” their account information. Some masqueraders try to commit this fraud on the phone, posing as the CFO, comptroller or CEO to intimidate an employee.

- In Scholars at Work, a partnership with the Department of Education, SBS collaborates with career and technical education schools to connect high school seniors to internships.
- New Skills, New Jobs coordinates with small companies with a training plan for new talent or helps them develop one. Businesses choose the best match among screened interns, and SBS reimburses 70% of wages.
- The Brooklyn Tech Triangle Internship Program, a collaboration with City College of New York, places college juniors and seniors in computer-related industries. During the eight-week program, interns spend four days a week at a business and, on Fridays, work on skills or visit other companies.

All small businesses must have an emergency preparedness plan to assist the continuity of their business recovery and operations in the event of an emergency. This may include inclement weather patterns that can create physical damages or business interruption to their commercial leased space or property owned by business.
We’ve prepared a checklist of steps needed to reduce small business loss in an emergency:

- Activate your emergency plan if you have one.
- If you have access to your building, gather employee and supplier contact information, legal, insurance and financial records.
- Lock your facility.
- Keep a log of all the business decisions and communications you make and keep copies of all correspondence (i.e., faxes, e-mails, etc.).
- Document your losses and take photos of damages to the structure and your inventory.

- Determine if you will be able to conduct business in the near term.
- Determine if there are any significant changes to the immediate surroundings that would affect customer and vendor access.
- Determine the effect this emergency will have on the products and service your business has the ability to offer.
- Contact your insurance company.

- Determine if your insurance will cover the damages and expenses incurred.
- Determine if your insurance will cover the rental fees of necessary space and equipment needed to immediately resume operations.
- Contact your customers. Alert customers who are expecting delivery of products or services.
