Today, we announced Resiliency Innovations for a Stronger Economy (RISE : NYC).

RISE : NYC is a competition to help small businesses impacted by Hurricane Sandy by identifying and deploying creative new technologies and solutions to make their building systems, and energy infrastructure and telecom networks more resilient to the impacts of future storms, sea level rise and other effects of climate change.

Up to $30 million will be awarded through RISE : NYC. Businesses and organizations are invited to submit project proposals for the installation of innovative technologies of Sandy-impacted small businesses across NYC. if you are a technology company with an innovative, replicable resiliency technology, apply today. We are also looking for NYC small business impacted by Hurricane Sandy who are interested in hosting selected technologies at no cost.

Can your small business recover again from storm-related damage?

RISE: NYC

RISE: NYC is nycedc's resiliency technology program, aimed at identifying new and innovative resiliency technologies, to be installed for free on small business sites.

The competition will award up to $30 million in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to help NYC small businesses impacted by Hurricane Sandy prepare for future storms and improve the resiliency of their building systems, energy infrastructure, and telecommunications networks.

Small businesses impacted by Hurricane Sandy and located in the 100-year flood plain are eligible to receive selected resiliency technologies for free through the program.

Eligible small businesses interested in being a host site need only answer a couple of questions.

There may be eligible areas not included on the maps that experienced damage or service interruption as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Final eligibility for all sites will be determined not by location, but by documentation of Sandy’s impacts on the building or network.

New Loan Fund to Aid Small City Contractors | Crain's New York Business:

For the NYC Department of Small Business Services, the fund means that there is a ready partnership available to help small construction businesses pay for contract-related labor and equipment costs, something that has been particularly difficult to achieve for companies involved with city’s Build it Back program, which helps homeowners rebuild after Hurricane Sandy.

By creating a quicker stream of bridge financing, the new Small Business Services fund could make Build it Back more appealing to contractors.
