The holiday season can present unique regulatory challenges for New York City small business owners. Help your business avoid costly fines by staying in the know with the following compliance tips:
- Remember to have a clear refund policy posted
- All A-frame signs are illegal on sidewalks.
- Three feet rule for display of sidewalk merchandise for non-restricted streets (3 ft. in front, 5 ft. in height, goods must also be sold inside of store, and all transactions inside of store)
- No posting of flyers on private property other than your own and public properties
- Ensure your carting company decal is affixed to your entry door and visible.
Follow these recycling and take back procedures:
- Pharmacies and drug stores: plastic bags, rechargeable batteries, unwanted medications, sharps
- Electronic and office supply stores: plastic bags, electronics, cell phones, rechargeable batteries
- Grocers and delis: plastic bags, deposit containers
- Hardware stores, contractors, and wholesalers: plastic bags, rechargeable batteries, mercury thermostats, fluorescent bulbs
