Clik here to view."These businesses realize you don’t need a college degree for every position," said Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services, or SBS, which operates several such efforts:
- In Scholars at Work, a partnership with the Department of Education, SBS collaborates with career and technical education schools to connect high school seniors to internships.
- New Skills, New Jobs coordinates with small companies with a training plan for new talent or helps them develop one. Businesses choose the best match among screened interns, and SBS reimburses 70% of wages.
- The Brooklyn Tech Triangle Internship Program, a collaboration with City College of New York, places college juniors and seniors in computer-related industries. During the eight-week program, interns spend four days a week at a business and, on Fridays, work on skills or visit other companies.
